This tour offers a good alternative to cruises, for travelers wanting to visit the Galapagos without being on a boat all the time. You still enjoy traveling in a small group, but have free time to explore the small towns. And as in a cruise, you are accompanied by a top naturalist guide all the tour. We do not sacrifice on visits; you’ll see plenty of endemic and native species and have great snorkel excursions. We use comfortable, human size hotels. We provide the snorkel equipment and wetsuits. We can also add some days of excursions or free days before or after the tour if you want, feel free to ask!
THIS TOUR HAS FIXED DEPARTURE DATES; PLEASE CHECK BELOW TO SEE WHICH DATE FITS YOU.

ITINERARY

Day 1San Cristobal

We will pick you up on arrival at the airport of San Cristobal Island and take you to the hotel. After a nice lunch with the guide, you will go get your snorkeling gear and we will depart for a great first snorkeling session. The spot will be selected by the guide according to the tide. Today you will spot your first sea lions (underwater or at the beach), tropical fishes, and surely marine iguanas.
Meals included this day: lunch.
Tip: take a stroll on in the evening along the waterfront and on the piers: spot all the sea lions on the beaches, on the benches and sometimes even in the street!
Difficulty: EASY

Day 2San Cristobal – Lobos island

Note: the tour will either take place AM or PM; the second half of the day is free. Lunch is included. In the free time you can take a dip in the nearby beaches in company of the sea lions.

Lobos island is a nearby islet (navigation is approx. 30mn) where you can spot blue footed boobies and frigate birds. You will walk for 1h00/1h30. After the walk your will have a snorkeling session. (Easy session, in quite shallow water). After the snorkeling our last stop will be a beach where we will have a bit of free time (Ochoa beach). Lunch is included on board whether the tour takes place from 8 to 12h30 or from 13h00 to 17h30.

Meals included this day: breakfast and lunch
Tip: you have a half day free this day so here are some suggestions on what you can do: take a cab to explore the Junco lagoon, or hang at Playa Mann the beach local go, where you have to share the beach with the sea lions!
Difficulty: EASY- MEDIUM

Alternative excursion to Lobos Island (subject to availability): if you are looking for a more thrilling experience, you can instead of Lobos island opt for Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido – sleeping Lion), a volcanic formation amid the ocean. There you might spot sharks, rays, turtles and if you are lucky hammerhead sharks! The wall of the rock underwater is also beautiful with plenty of tropical fishes. The tour also includes a stop at a nice beach where we will have time to relax, swim and walk around to take pictures. You will be back around 14h30 in the afternoon.
Extra cost for this tour: + $60 p.p.
Tip: it is mandatory to be a good swimmer / comfortable in open wáter for this tour. This is a shared boat tour with max 12 people on board.

Day 3Floreana

Breakfast will be served at your hotel. Then you will be picked-up to go to the pier where you depart around 8AM to Floreana island. The boat ride lasts for about 2h30 hours. Floreana is the less populated island, it has not grown a lot in the past year and is not very accessible, therefore it is still pristine and authentic. At arrival we will go to the “Peace Asylum where the first colons arrived on the Galapagos. The guide will tell you about the incredible stories about whalers, pirates and the first families that settled there, including the “Baroness”. We will then have lunch. Afterwards you can either join the guide for a snorkel session at Loberia beach or just enjoy the black sand beach in front of the hotel. You can also walk around the small village and enjoy a drink watching the sun set.

Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Fun Fact: A movie is being shot in Australia inspired by the first colons stories (Origin of Species, by Ron Howard).
Difficulty: EASY

Day 4Isabela

In the morning we will get ready to navigate to Isabela. It takes approx. 1h30 to reach this beau-tiful island. At arrival, transfer to the hotel and lunch. In the afternoon we will do the Tintoreras tour. you have a short hike and snorkel. There you can spot small Galapagos penguins, sea lions, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies and often you can even spot white-tipped reef sharks in one of the channels. Evening free.

Meals included: breakfast, lunch.
Fun Fact: Tintoreras is called this way because it is a place where you can spot the white tip reef sharks. Called in Spanish Tintoreras.
Difficulty: EASY

Alternative excursion to Tintoreras (subject to availability): If you want a longer snorkeling you can opt this day for the tour to the Tunnels of Cabo Rosa. You will depart at 11AM and be back around 17h00. It’s 45 MN boat ride each way- At Cabo Rosa lava has flowed into the ocean and formed beautiful lava tunnels. There you may see penguins, blue-footed boobies, and sea turtles. However, the highlight is snorkeling. Once you have returned from the vol-cano, you will have lunch at a local farm. On the way back we will stop at the flamingo’s lagoon so we can spot these graceful pink birds. • WATER: You can fill up water bottles in all the hotels each morning before going on the tour. Tap water is not drinkable!
  • TRANSPORTATION: Is made by small speedboats between islands. Navigation times can take up to 3 hours due to the distance between islands and currents. We cannot control the ocean, if a swell comes in the ride can be bumpy, especially during the Garúa season (June to September approx). If you are usually subject to motion sickness please bring parches or pills (you can also buy pills on Galapagos). From experience, the parches are really effective!
  • RYTHM OF THE TOUR: This is a pretty active tour, you need to be fit (be used to hiking and swimming). Specifically the volcano hike is demanding and the group cannot wait too long for slow hikers. If you have doubts that you cannot follow the volcano hike we recommend you to book the alternative Cabo Rosa tour. The issue is that you cannot be left behind on the tour to the volcano due to the National Park restrictions; the group has to be always accompanied by the guide. To make most out of the time spent on the Galapagos Islands, early wake ups are scheduled. If you would like to spend some extra days on your own without itinerary we will be happy to help you to book extra nights before and/or after the tour.

Couple Traveller

My wife and I had a marvelous trip, partly because of the complex beauty of the islands, but also because we were so lucky to have Jorge as our guide. He was passionate about the islands, and he was a vast storehouse of information about their geology, human history, and unique complexity of plant and animal life. He was an excellent communicator, even though English was obviously his 2nd language. He presented information to us through stories, anecdotes, and observations, and he did it all with a marvelous sense of humor. He knew people on every island we visited, which proved helpful in learning about things like snorkeling conditions or specific locations of recent animal sightings. The tour was very well organized with the right amount of activities, exercise and great local food. Everything was glitch-free, including the boat trips, equipment rentals, meals, tours, and hotel stays. I appreciate Sharksky’s professionalism, and I absolutely loved Jorge our tour leader. We also had wonderful support from everyone else who supported various parts of the trip. I highly recommend a Sharksky tour as a was to get to know one of the most incredible places on Earth.
